Iran, Georgia can take steps to upgrade ties

TEHRAN, Aug. 09 (MNA) – Iranian vice minister of foreign affairs highlighted the need for seeking expansion of historical and cultural relations between Tehran and Tbilisi.

Morteza Sarmadi and visiting Georgian Deputy Speaker Gubaz Sanikidze held a meeting on Saturday and discussed taking fundamental steps towards promoting ties between the two countries.

Pointing to the role of parliaments in promotion of bilateral ties, Sarmadi said their decisions were a manifestation of their peoples' determination and demands.

Sanikidze, while expressing gratitude to Iran over its support for Georgia since its independence, said, "Georgia's history is closely inter-connected to Iran's rich culture and I assure the government and people of Georgia highly appreciate 3000-years-old ties with Iran."

Welcoming the nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1, he added, Goergia expressed readiness for increasing its cooperation with Iran.

Georgian official also called for exchange of delegations between Iran and Georgia at high-ranking levels.
